Fiumicino Airport

Rome Leonardo da Vinci Fiumicino Airport

Rome Leonardo da Vinci Fiumicino Airport is the main airport in Rome. It is also the home-base of Alitalia, Italy´s largest airline.

Rome Leonardo da Vinci Fiumicino Airport was established in 1961, when the air traffic was already exceeding the capacity available. It is the largest airport in Rome and was built to relieve pressure on Rome´s Ciampino Airport.
It is an extremely busy international airport. The 42 million passengers that use the airport annually make it the 8th busiest airport in Europe in terms of traffic, and the 35th largest in the world in terms of passenger numbers.

Fiumicino lies approx. 35 km west of Rome´s city centre.
The airport is also a hub for Alitalia and Vueling (the Spanish low cost carrier).
Da Vinci lends his name to the airport because, as far back as 1480, he designed prototypes of a helicopter and an airplane.

Here you can see more about connections available etc. at the airport´s own website
