South America, one of the 7 continents and the fourth largest, is quite significant in terms of area, with its 17.8 million. km², most of which is located south of the equator. South America is located between the Pacific Ocean and the Atlantic Ocean and is connected to North America at the Panamá in Central America.

South America has a mixed landscape with giant rivers, rainforest, desert and high mountains. The 6570 km long Amazon River runs through the Amazon Jungle. The river basin covers an enormous area of ​​8 million. km². The Andes stretch all the way from north to south of the continent. Altitude reaches 6959 meters at Aconcagua in Argentina and down to 105 meters below ground level also in Argentina. The Atacama desert in Chile is the driest place on the planet.
