The river basin covers an enormous area of 8 million. km². The Andes stretch all the way from north to south of the continent. Altitude reaches 6959 meters at Aconcagua in Argentina and down to 105 meters below ground level also in Argentina. The Atacama desert in Chile is the driest place on the planet.
